Best advice I can give you is, "If it's not broke, don't fix it."
I have a computer running Windows XP as a backup and it's not connected to the Internet. So when I need something, I just connect my mobile device to transfer files as needed...It works!
Best part is no threats! All you hear today is how data is getting stolen and compromised. Always have a backup just in case and keep it off the Internet.
We want to remind you when you shop online and use credit cards, as I last mentioned in recognition of this past October as Cyber Security Awareness Month in Pennsylvania, here are three of the most effective ways you can protect your data from falling into the wrong hands.
Common Cyber Security Mistake You Are Probably Still Making...
1. Try to avoid using public Wi-Fi...
You may consider using a virtual private network (VPN), which ensures your sensitive data cannot be seen by the Wi-Fi network you are using.
2. Use additional account verification features...
These services require additional verification, such as a text, email, phone call or security questions.
3. Create unique credentials for every account...
✖️Bad Example:
Username: jksmith@gmail.com (your email address)
Password: Snickers (your pet's name)
✔️Good Example:
Username: jksmith1234
(first initial + middle initial + last name + last four numbers of the account or your SSN.)
Password: MyOctbr2018!
(Use at least one uppercase letter, the rest can be a mix of lowercase letters and numbers and at least one special character. Some sites or logins have a minimum length of 8-12 characters, but once you come up with a format, just change a few characters and keep that consistency.)
